Gibsons Waterfront Defence Association

Our Association’s purpose is to defend Gibsons Landing’s historic, scenic harbour waterfront from desecration by high-rises and other offences against our long-established values. Membership in the Association is open to all who appreciate our little waterfront community’s traditional character and want to preserve it for future generations.

We do not agree to change our Official Community Plan to allow anything higher than the 35-foot current height limit of any buildings in the Harbour, nor alter their form and character, nor remove view protection. In this we stand firm.

The quaint seaside village of Gibsons is being threatened by a mega-development project called the George Hotel that would destroy the character of the town, threaten our drinking water aquifer, spread contaminants in our harbour, and end up a liability to taxpayers.

GWDA are determined to:

  1. Ensure that building or development permits in the harbour area of Gibsons for any development application comply with form and character policies set out in the existing consolidated Official Community Plan (OCP) ByLaw 985-12/2012 and with building massing, height, and siting regulations in existing zoning bylaw 1065 (as of January 1, 2013).
  2. Guarantee Gibsons Aquifer will not be placed at risk by development.
  3. Safeguard Gibsons Harbour from the spread of toxic contamination.
  4. Protect residents of the Town from any and all tax burden as a result of the George hotel and residences project.
